Pembrokeshire weather at a glance

Pembrokeshire is a coastal area in southwest Wales. July and August are the warmest months. May has the least rain on average, and November has the most. These are long-term averages, not a forecast, and a dry day is never guaranteed. Coast and inland areas can differ.

The best time to visit depends on what you want to do. For puffins you need April to July, for warm days on the beach July and August, and for coast walks the drier months from April to June. If you plan around boats, see our Pembrokeshire tours for the seasons of each trip.

For most visitors, May to July gives a good balance of lower rain, longer days and the puffin season. The table has no sea temperatures, and the figures come from one station, so allow for differences along the coast.

Our pick: paddleboarding at Tenby North Beach

A good choice for a calm, dry day when the sea is flat; the operator decides on the day whether conditions allow it.

Best time to visit for puffins

The puffin season on Skomer is short.

Mid April

The first puffins arrive on Skomer.

May to July

Puffins are around in numbers. This is the main time for the Skomer boat.

Mid to late July

The birds begin to leave, and by the end of July most have gone.

August and autumn

Do not plan a trip for puffins in August or autumn just because the weather is warm. There is never a promise of a sighting, even in season.

The Skomer landing season runs from 1 April to 30 September 2026, but not on every day, so check your date. Read more on the Skomer Island page.

What each season suits

A short guide by month.

Spring

April and May are cooler and drier than autumn. Caldey boats start on 4 April in the 2026 season, and puffins arrive in mid April.

Summer

July and August are the warmest. Lifeguards on some beaches run daily in summer, for example at Freshwater West from 20 June to 6 September 2026. Flags decide where you swim, not the date.

Autumn

September is still mild, but October and November are the wettest months. Caldey and Skomer are closed to visitors after 30 September until the following spring.

Winter

Most rain falls from October to January. Coastal buses are limited, with the 387 and 388 running on Thursdays and Saturdays.
