Where to stay in Pembrokeshire
Pembrokeshire is a long coastline, not one town. The main bases are Tenby and Saundersfoot in the south-east, St Davids and Solva in the west, and Newport and Fishguard on the north coast. Haverfordwest and Narberth sit inland on the A40. Choose by the day trips you want, then book accordingly.
This page compares locations only. It does not recommend hotels or holiday parks. For ideas on what to book from your base, see our Pembrokeshire tours.

Our pick: five-day Wales tour with four hotel nights
If you would rather not book each stay yourself, this tour includes the nights and breakfasts, though it starts in London and is not a Pembrokeshire-only trip.

Tenby and Saundersfoot
Beach, harbour and a railway station.
Tenby and Saundersfoot are coastal towns with a beach and a harbour. Tenby also has a railway station. The walk between the two is part of the coast path, and the hills make it more than a flat stroll. The two towns suit a first visit with the beach as the main plan.
Read the town pages for Tenby and Saundersfoot, and compare the sands on the beaches page.

St Davids, Solva and Newport
The west and the north coast.
St Davids and Solva have places to stay and shops on the coast path. The path from Whitesands to Solva is 13 miles (20.9 km). Newport is a stage town on the path, in Pembrokeshire, so do not confuse it with Newport in south Wales. The path from Newport to Fishguard is 12 miles (19.3 km).
For most walkers, St Davids is a good base. For Skomer, the Puffin Shuttle 400 runs from St Davids to Martin's Haven from 23 May to 27 September 2026. See Skomer Island and the coast path page.

Haverfordwest and Narberth
Inland on the A40.
Haverfordwest is the nearest town for rail and bus links to Picton Castle, which you reach by the A40 from both Haverfordwest and Narberth. These towns are a base for driving, not a beach stay. Cardiff Central to Haverfordwest takes about 2.5 hours by train. Plan transfers separately from the airport or the station. See getting to Pembrokeshire.
Holiday cottages and other types of stay
Choose the type, then the place.
Holiday cottages
A holiday cottage is a self-catering stay, useful for families and longer trips. Availability and minimum stays change by property and season, so ask before you book.
Hostels and camping
Shared hostel rooms and tent pitches have a lower rate under the Welsh levy rules. Wild camping needs the landowner's permission.
On Skomer
Individual hostel stays on Skomer are possible. Commercial overnight group trips stopped in 2026.
The Welsh visitor levy
Law since 18 September 2025, not yet in force here.
The law lets councils introduce a visitor levy after a consultation, at the earliest in 2027. The rate is £0.75 per person per night for shared hostel rooms and tent pitches, with under 18s exempt there, and £1.30 for other accommodation. VAT can come on top. In April 2025 Pembrokeshire County Council said the current administration did not intend to introduce it. That is not a ban for all future councils, so check the position before you travel.
